SMHA is an Arizona and New Mexico nonprofit corporation that represents a consortium of eight rural southwestern member hospitals and sixteen participating facilities in an eight county region commonly known as the Four Corners area. RHF worked with SMHA to prepare and submit an REA application in January 1995. This application proposed for the implementation of a Distance Learning/Medical Link that builds on the existing efforts of SMHA Healthcare Alliance and constructs the basic technologies to flexibly address the currently identified applications and future applications. The Telemedicine infrastructure will support initial Telemedicine applications of case management, teleradiology and interactive teleconferencing for the purpose of supporting Medicaid enrollment and eligibility maintenance, patient and continuing medical education and medical consultation.
