December 31-Chelsea will keep an eye on Brighton midfielder McAllister if Enzo’s transfer proves too expensive in the winter window, according to a joint report by Fabrizio Romano Jacob Steinberg and Ed Aarons of the Guardian. In addition, Chelsea could also intercept Arsenal’s target Shakhtar Donetsk miner winger Mudrick.
Enzo has become a key target for Graham Porter, who is seeking to transform his midfield. Chelsea have contacted Benfica about a deal for the 21-year-old, who has been selected as Qatar’s best young player at the 2022 World Cup and hopes swift action will help them win the race to sign the midfielder.
However, Enzo’s contract contains a £106 million termination clause and Benfica does not want to lose him in January. Benfica signed the Argentina international from Riverbed for an initial price of 10 million euros last summer. The Portuguese club insisted on a full transfer fee and told Enzo that they would give him a big raise if he stayed until the end of the season and that his contract would expire in 2027. But understandably, Enzo wants to move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are also close to finalising a deal for Monaco centre-back Badiacil, who are reluctant to trigger Enzo’s termination terms, while Chelsea hope to persuade Benfica to give in on their position by offering a sizeable advance.
If this turns out to be impossible, then Chelsea have other options in midfield and they will keep an eye on McAllister. Chelsea are nearing a contract extension with Cantor, who will become a free agent in the summer, but the Frenchman has not played since he tore his hamstring in August. Cantor has experienced a series of injury problems and is not expected to make a comeback until March.
Jorinho’s contract also expires in the summer and the future of the Italian midfielder is unclear. Chelsea are also interested in Bellingham and Rice, but the transfer of the two will face fierce competition.
If Chelsea fail to sign Enzo now, they may reconsider the deal in the summer, while both Enzo and McAllister are expected to swing to the flank.
The striker is another position Chelsea need to strengthen and their striker Giuseppe Broya is unable to play for the rest of the season due to injury. They have prepared a summer contract for Leipzig striker Christopher Nkunku, but they are also interested in Mudrick and Arsenal are interested in him.
The miners have rejected Arsenal’s offer for the Ukrainian winger, insisting on an offer of £85 million. Chelsea have agreed to sign striker David Dartro Fofanah from Molde, Norway, and Badia Siller is on the verge of becoming their second transfer. The 21-year-old has agreed on personal terms. He made his national team debut in September but was not included in France’s World Cup squad. He is expected to spend 35 million euros and other bonuses are still being negotiated.
