According to a joint report by ESPN reporters Alex Kirkland and Rodrigo Faez, sources told ESPN that Real Madrid are ready to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Bellingham for more than 100m euros and are confident they can speed up transfer negotiations in January.
The La Liga giants see the 19-year-old England international as a priority for next season, but they are also aware of competition from Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and especially Liverpool.
In November, sources told ESPN that although Liverpool were in the lead in the race for Bellingham, Madrid believed they were still in a good position to win the teenager’s approval.
Since then, Bellingham’s excellent performance in the World Cup has further enhanced his value-but sources have told ESPN that Madrid are unwilling to make what they consider to be a “crazy” offer to sign him.
Real Madrid consider the transfer fee of 100m euros a reasonable figure and hope that the good relationship between club president Florentino Peres and Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans Joachim Watsk will help finalise the deal.
According to sources, the dialogue between Madrid executives and the players’ team has also been positive and the club is confident that their long-term lineup-building plan can convince Borussia Dortmund and the players to achieve results in the end.
