According to the latest report by ESPN reporter Mark Odgen, sources told ESPN that after delaying the decision on whether to withdraw from Uefa, the Russian Football Association (RFU) has set up a working group to evaluate the feasibility of abandoning Uefa membership and joining AFC.
The executive committee of the Russian Football Association met in Moscow on Friday to discuss the prospect of moving to the Asian Football Federation, but sources said senior Russian football officials asked for further investigation and analysis of the positive and negative factors of leaving the European arena for Asia.
According to sources, the task of the working group is to submit a complete assessment report within three months in order to make a decision by the end of March.
Uefa is closely monitoring the situation and is waiting for a formal report from the Russian Football Association.
