February 14 News Liverpool officially issued a statement on UEFA’s investigation report on the UEFA Champions League final incident last night.
—Liverpool FC welcomed UEFA’s report into the chaos of the Champions League final in Paris, which provided sufficient evidence that Liverpool fans behaved without issue, while finding that UEFA had failed organizationally, lacked overall control or had concerns about safety and security
Oversight, poor planning and lack of contingency planning are largely to blame.
– The evidence-based panel report also found there was a “clear and immediate risk of fatal crushing” and that the actions of Liverpool fans saved lives.
– The panel concluded that there were two key organizational failures – firstly, that UEFA’s “model” for organizing the final was flawed because of the lack of overall control or oversight of safety and security.
Second, the safety, security and service model set out in the Council of Europe Convention was ignored and UEFA instead supported the theory of so-called insecurity, an approach that was inappropriately based on the fact that Liverpool fans posed a significant threat to public order
Wrong assumption.
-Liverpool Football Club thanks the panel of experts who have worked hard over the past eight months to ensure the facts are clear and calls on UEFA to implement fully and transparently the 21 key recommendations to ensure all fans at every UEFA match
We were able to travel safely and finish the race safely.
The following are the proposals:
Last night UEFA published the report of the independent panel looking into the organizational failures we witnessed firsthand in Paris.
Against this backdrop, we call on UEFA and others at the top of football’s regulatory pyramid to unite and act aggressively and transparently to ensure there are no more ‘near failures’.
We implore UEFA to fully adopt the recommendations put forward by the expert group, no matter how difficult it may be, ensuring the safety of fans is UEFA’s top priority for every competition held.
On the night of the Champions League final at the Stade de France, even before the postponement was announced, we called on top UEFA officials to delay kick-off and rein in the chaos outside the stadium.
We also call on UEFA to conduct a full, independent and transparent investigation to establish the facts.
We know that finding ways to understand why both Liverpool and Real Madrid fans find themselves in situations where their safety is at risk is critical.
We are determined to ensure a robust investigation is undertaken so that lessons can be learned and the safety of European fans can no longer be compromised.
Immediately after that night in Paris, shockingly false accounts spread: claims that have since been completely disproved.
An independent report by the French Senate, published in July 2022, found that Liverpool fans were unfairly and wrongly blamed for the chaotic scenes in order to divert attention from real organizational failures.
The French Senate report also issued 15 recommendations for improvement, but no action has been taken on them so far.
Another 160-page independent report, drawing on the testimony of almost 500 witnesses, and written by respected criminologist, academic and author Professor Phil Skken, concluded that UEFA had failed in the discharge of its mandate.
suffered a major fiasco.
It is appalling that more than 30 years after the Hillsborough tragedy, any club and our supporter community are still faced with such a fundamental breach of security, with such a devastating impact on so many people.
But even more worrying is the realization that for the family, friends and survivors of the Hillsborough tragedy, the experience in Paris will only exacerbate their suffering.
Our condolences go out to all fans who suffered as a result of the terrorist attacks in Paris that day, and we will remind them that we have urgently implemented mental health support measures to intervene in their psychological situation in the days following the disaster of the Champions League final in Paris.
As a football club with a proud history in Europe, we call on UEFA to do the right thing and implement the 21 recommendations to ensure the safety of all fans attending UEFA football matches.
