On the Sky Sports program, England legend Gary Neville talked about Southgate’s decision to remain coach of the three Lions, saying it gave the FA enough respite to plan for Southgate’s successor.
Neville said: “it calms things down and allows everyone to focus on the next 18 months, which means the FA can make succession plans.” Southgate makes us feel again that it is a good feeling to play for England and that our players are respected all over the world. ”
“We are in a good position and I think we have to stick to the idea. If you say we are suddenly better, I don’t believe it. Don’t be fooled by appearance. Southgate is a very friendly guy and he is very polite when talking to people. ”
“the real problem is that you don’t have much choice. In 18 months, you can say Cooper, Eddie Howe, Porter, Lampard, Gerrard-four or five English coaches, and then there are some coaches from other countries, but you don’t know what’s going to happen.”
“gone are the days when England could buy out the manager from the club and it is a pity that the job of the England manager is not as precious as that of some of the top clubs in the Premier League.”
