February 02 NewsThe 29-year-old French central defender Varane posted a post on his personal social media, announcing his retirement from the national team, ending 10 years
national team career.
Varane posted:
Representing our great country for ten years is one of the greatest honors of my life.
Every time I don this special blue jersey, I feel so proud.
I have a responsibility to give everything, play with my heart and want to win every time I play.
I thought about it for several months and decided that now is the perfect time for me to retire from the national team.
As a child, I remember following the French team in ’98, this team, these players made us go through indescribable emotions.
I dreamed of achieving greatness like our heroes, and 20 years later, I am having one of the best experiences of my life, which I am very proud of.
We took the trophy home!
!
I will never forget it.
I can still feel every emotion from that day, July 15th, 2018.
It was one of the greatest and most memorable moments of my life.
Without the support of Didier Deschamps, the support of our management and staff over the years, without my team-mates who defend our jersey in every game, we could not have won this victory together.
But more importantly, such a victory would not have been possible without the support of each and every one of you on this path.
Your enthusiasm, the celebrations and memories of our return to France will forever be etched in my mind.
Even after losing the finals last year, you welcomed us like heroes when we returned.
To each of you, thank you a thousand times!
I will definitely miss these moments with you, but it’s time for a new generation to take over.
We have a group of talented young players who are ready to take over, they deserve a chance, they need you.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
Rafa.
