poll: 80% of Germans are no longer interested in the German national team or are less interested in it

In recent years, almost half of Germans have lost interest in the national team. A total of 46 per cent of respondents said in a survey conducted by Yougov, a public opinion agency, on behalf of the German news agency, that their interest in the selection of the German Football Association had declined recently. Due to the disappointing performance in the past three competitions, 26% of them showed a sharp decline in interest in the national team, while 20% said they had lost some interest. 34% of the respondents said they had no interest in the national team before. Only 18% of the survey participants maintained at least the same interest as before.
In the last three competitions, Germany were eliminated early, the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar were eliminated in the group stage, and last year’s European Cup fell to the knockout stage of the last 16.
After the recent World Cup defeat, national team coach Frick said: “We have to reinvigorate the enthusiasm, every player, every coach wants us to get support.”
