According to the latest report by Portuguese media reporter Nuno Miguel Ferreira, Benfica has set his sights on striker John Duran, who works for the Chicago Flame of the American Professional League.
The 19-year-old is perfectly suited to Benfica’s next strategic needs, and they hope to bet on a young and talented striker with room for improvement in the winter window in January, and he is a clear bet on the future. Benfica’s idea is to close the deal in the short term so that the Colombian can integrate into the team in January.
The characteristics that Duran showed in Chicago were consistent with Schmidt’s intentions. He is strong and fast, can protect the ball when catching the ball with his back to the goal, and is flexible. At the same time, he likes to oppress and rob opponents’ defenders as the Germans demand.
Duran made his debut for the Colombian national team on Sept. 25, and the young player has a market value of 6 million euros, according to Transfermarkt. The Chicago Flames will pay 1.7 million euros to Envigado in 2021 to sign the striker.
But now, both Benfica and teams that have previously had an affair (Duran’s agent approached Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea in October) are talking about a big deal of 10 million euros.
It takes Duran an average of 202 minutes to score. This season he played 1613 minutes, scored eight goals and even became the team’s top scorer.
The Chicago Fire guaranteed a two-year option in its contract with him. The young man’s contract runs until December 31, 2024, but the Americans have priority to extend the contract until 2026.
