Senegal lost 0-3 to England in the eighth final of the Qatari World Cup, which ended early this morning, ending with the last 16 of the World Cup. After the match, Senegal coach Sisay talked about his views on the game in an interview.
When you missed the first two chances, was the game over?
“No. The game lasted 90 minutes. We did very well in the first 30 minutes. But we didn’t try to turn our chances into goals. They are a very good England team, strong in terms of confrontation and physical impact. We have come a long way from our goal, but there is a big difference between the two teams. We have been working hard to achieve this goal for many years. But England ranks fifth in the FIFA rankings. The difference is apparent. ”
Do you think your team has the spirit to advance to the top eight?
“it’s not a matter of mentality. I am proud of my players. We must recognize the strength of England. It made us flinch. Their second goal overwhelmed us. Especially the third one made us drop out of the competition. But I must praise the mentality of my team. They didn’t give up and tried to move forward anyway. ”
Have you ever thought about conceding so many balls?
“not at all. Our advantage has always been the basis of defense. I see that we have conceded a lot of goals since the start of the game. But we also scored. It’s amazing. Overall, our defense has always enabled us to make a difference. But today we played badly and were scored three goals by the opponents. ”
Apart from failure, what have you learned from this World Cup?
“We are taking part in the World Cup. They (England) are the best team. Senegal ranks 18th in the FIFA rankings. On the contrary, England belongs to the top five teams in the world. But our development is a process of progress. We are trying to improve our level. We must continue to compete with these strong teams. ”
Do you miss Manet too much?
“inevitably, a player of this level can often give us a lot of help and give us some attacking opportunities. It’s a pity that he missed the game. But the whole and the collective are still interesting. I am very satisfied with our four games. ”
What kind of changes did you make at half-time?
“it’s a tactical choice. I don’t want us to be left behind all the time. We must create problems for England. We can do well in the first 30 minutes and we want to continue what we did in the first 30 minutes. I got my team back into the game. ”
Isn’t it time to change the formation?
“I can repeat that Senegal’s advantage is the basis of its defense, which is recognized by everyone. It is inexplicable that we have conceded so many goals. It’s not a matter of formation. Some mistakes can make you pay in the World Cup. ”
But how do you explain your reaction to Kane’s goal?
“We made a technical mistake and let the opponents score the first two goals. You have to send the ball out so that you have a chance to score. On the court, the opponents’ transition is very strong and they have a good Terminator. We must pay more attention. They don’t need too many points. This is the experience of an excellent team. ”
What do you think of the journey of African teams in this World Cup?
“African football is improving. But it won’t make us world champions quickly. We still need time. With infrastructure and national policy, we will improve. There are excellent coaches and referees. We no longer rely on a spontaneous generation to launch coups. We must not be discouraged. We need to continue to make progress. ”
