Norwich official announcement:
Norwich City parted ways with coach Dean Smith today.
As the club hopes to continue its efforts to achieve its goals on the pitch this season, the board believes that now is the right time to make this shift. Assistant manager Craig Shakespeare and first team coach Liam Bramley also left the club.
The rest of the club’s coaching staff, led by Steve Weaver and Alan Russell, will be temporarily responsible for first-team training and our upcoming games. The club will now strive to identify and appoint a new manager who can provide the level of performance needed to challenge the top leagues while implementing a consistent style of play.
Sports director Stuart Webber said: “it is a difficult decision, but we think it is necessary to give ourselves the best chance to achieve our goal of getting into the Premier League this season.” We would like to formally thank Dean, Craig and Liam for always putting the best interests of the football club first.
“there is less than half of the season left, three consecutive home games are coming and we now have a real opportunity to build some progress and positive momentum on and off the pitch.”
Dean Smith officially took over as manager of Norwich in November last year, but the team ranked at the bottom of the Premier League last season and was relegated.
Norwich, who recently suffered a two-game losing streak in the Championship, lost 1-2 to Luton in the last round and now ranks fifth in the championship table with 10 wins, 5 draws, 9 losses and 35 points, 12 points behind Burnley, who topped the table.
