December 30-according to the Times, Benfica wants to significantly increase Enzo’s salary.
The Times says Chelsea are interested in Enzo, the World Cup’s best newcomer with a £106 million termination clause in his contract, while Benfica does not want to sell Enzo in the middle of the season.
Benfica president Rui Costa met with Enzo a few days ago and he hopes Enzo knows that the summer transfer will be good for his career in the long term. At the same time, Rui Costa also mentioned that Chelsea may miss next season’s Champions League and recent instability.
In return for loyalty to Benfica, Rui Costa said he would significantly improve Enzo’s contract and offer 8 million euros (7 million pounds) in performance-related bonuses. Although Benfica offered to increase Enzo’s termination fee by 80 million euros, he also promised to sell it at a lower price than his termination fee at the end of the season.
Benfica’s executive board supports Rui Costa’s position as clubs such as Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid are likely to show interest in Enzo in the summer.
