January 4 John Aldridge published an article in the column of the Liverpool Echo,
He believes that Liverpool’s current midfielder will continue to sign heavily, otherwise Liverpool will miss many opportunities and be at a disadvantage in competition with strong teams.
Here’s John Aldridge’s column:
Nunes has been described by many media as Liverpool’s biggest problem at this moment, but that is not the case.
I like him and I think he’s going to be fine.
The older he gets, the smarter he plays the game and Nunes will score a lot for Liverpool.
The most worrying thing is our midfield situation.
We need two new players and they have to be at a very high level.
The net spending statistics since the start of the 2016/17 season came out the other day and guess which club is bottom of the top six?
Liverpool.
What Klopp did against Man City was unbelievable.
By selling Coutinho and a few other players, we have moved to the top of the table and laid the foundations for the team.
But now to go to the next stage we need signings and it will cost over £200m to get two top players and we don’t work in that way.
I’m glad we got Gakpo, but we’re not Manchester City.
What they did was a cartel, and we had to sell to do that.
In any other league we could have won three league titles and other cups.
Klopp said "we can’t play Monopoly" in his recent press conference, but maybe we do need to.
Maybe that’s one of the reasons why the owners want to sell the club because they know we can’t compete with Manchester City, Newcastle, Chelsea and Manchester United.
We need to invest in midfield and we have to be able to afford it.
City are far from at their best right now, but we are far worse, this lackluster season has been the worst for Liverpool and the club needs to make a change.
